Create a draft in the library, view widgets, and apply available filters.

Updated: Oct 14, 2026

How to create and use a dashboard

A dashboard displays several metrics on one screen. A new dashboard starts empty: creating it does not add widgets or publish it.

The widget configuration sections describe the prepared implementation. Installation, persistence in the running environment, and browser acceptance have not yet been verified; this is not a 3.0.20 release announcement.

Create a draft

  1. In a workspace and team, open the Library and select Create. If you start from Create dashboard on the home page or in the sidebar, the same library form opens with Dashboard selected.
  2. Select Dashboard, enter a name and optionally a description. If you open the form inside a collection, the draft is created there.
  3. Select Create. After successful creation, the empty dashboard opens. You can find it again in the library, including through the Dashboards filter.

If creation is not confirmed, check the library before submitting the form again. Only its owner can access a draft; this form neither publishes it nor adds widgets.

Open a dashboard with widgets

Select an accessible dashboard in the library. Published dashboards are accessible to members of the relevant workspace; drafts are accessible to their owners. Access to a widget’s data is checked separately: if a metric fails to load, check dataset access and contact an administrator. See troubleshooting data access.

If widgets have already been configured, you may see charts, tables, or metric cards. An ordinary widget title may open a new report with its dataset and fields. A report-snapshot widget title opens its saved source report, subject to a separate access check. Editing that report does not update the widget. Follow the report guide to build your own report.

Apply filters and check the result

The panel offers common accessible fields from current dataset catalogs, including fields not selected for display. Across different datasets, use glossary concepts with one explicit binding for each widget: equal field names are not a binding. Fields without complete coverage or with filtering prohibited by current access rules are not offered. If a catalog is unavailable, the panel explains this; applied conditions are not cleared automatically. Select and apply a condition. A widget’s own filters are also used when loading its data. If any applied condition has no binding for a widget, or a concept maps to multiple different fields, that widget’s query is blocked with an error: neither conditions nor OR branches are dropped. In this case, an ordinary widget hides its previous data so it cannot look like the result of the new filter. Check the mappings or remove the condition.

Pinned filters appear directly below Add filter and above ordinary conditions. The owner defines the glossary concept, operator, default value, and each placement’s binding. Viewers change values, not the pinned definition. Missing bindings block the query; explicit exclusions display their reason.

Reset clears ordinary and crossfilters and restores pinned defaults without removing their definitions. Refreshing the same dashboard retains applied values; navigating to another dashboard resets them. Viewer values are local: a full page reload restores saved defaults.

Regular and pivot widgets load through a dedicated server dashboard query. The server checks the workspace, exact placement and read-configuration revision; it reads saved widget conditions from the CMS, not the browser. A changed configuration requires a page refresh. When current field permissions or a filter binding prevent the complete query, no data is displayed. Previous data is also hidden while a new dashboard query is pending.

Configure composition and order

The owner of an editable dashboard can add an existing widget or create one. Adding an existing widget reuses its shared definition rather than copying it. Removing a placement does not delete the definition.

Completed moves and removals are autosaved sequentially. There is no separate layout edit mode or Save/Cancel pair. Use the dedicated drag handle or keyboard direction commands. Wait for confirmation; reload the server version on conflict. If the result is uncertain, reconcile before submitting a new operation.

Editing a shared widget requires definition-level rights even when you own the dashboard. Changes affect every placement of that definition. See dashboard widgets for editor and snapshot limitations.

Filter other widgets by clicking

Clicking an eligible table value or chart point adds a crossfilter for compatible other placements. The emitter excludes its own selection. Active selections appear above widgets and can be cleared individually or together. NULL, 0, an empty string, and false remain distinct. Display labels and aggregated measures do not replace original field values. Inaccessible fields or ambiguous bindings block a query rather than remove its conditions.

For finding dashboards and favorites, see the library and collections. Do not rely on Share or Delete in the library menu as a completed publishing or access-management workflow.
